Frequently Asked Questions

How does Tile Puzzle work?

  • Players must reposition and rotate a set of square tiles such that the questions and answers on the sides of the tiles all match up.
    • Teachers can provide a link to play online, or print a worksheet for players to cut out their own tiles.
  • There are three configurations:
    • a 2x2 grid requires 4 sets of prompts (and will have 8 exterior edges)
    • a 3x3 grid requires 12 sets of prompts (and will have 12 exterior edges)
    • a 4x4 grid requires 24 sets of prompts (and will have 16 exterior edges)
  • Teachers may specify "distractors," terms that do not correspond with any of your prompts, making the puzzle more difficult to solve.
    • Type your distractors in the box separated by commas or line breaks.
  • Exterior edges will be blank, unless you specify distractors.
  • Players using the provided link will each get their own unique, randomly generated puzzle.

How do players know they're done?

  • There is no answer key and nothing will happen automatically when players correctly complete a puzzle. Teachers will need to double check their work by looking it over or asking players to provide a screenshot.
  • Keep in mind that each puzzle has 4 solutions because a correct solution could be rotated 90, 180, or 270 degrees and still be correct.
