How do Cloze Activities work?

• A "cloze" activity is an exercise in which certain words from a block of text are removed and it's the participant's job to determine what each word is. Words can be guessed or predicted from context, or pulled from memory.
• Cloze activities can be used a number of ways:
  • Start with the text completely hidden and ask participants to recreate the passage one word at a time.
  • Start with the text partially hidden and ask participants to fill in the gaps.
  • Start with the text completely revealed, slowly removed more and more words to see if participants can continue to remember the passage with fewer and fewer hints.
• Click on words to reveal/hide them.

What options are there?

• You can start with the text completely revealed, completely hidden, or in any of 4 intermediate states.
  • Words are revealed in order from smallest words to largest words.
• You can toggle a "game mode" which allows you to enter possible words and Flippity will reveal (and score) all of them.
• You can toggle a word bank to make solutions easier.
• You can toggle numbers for each word to make it easier for participants to identify the word they'd like to guess.
